Rs 1000 support cost of wheat proposed

Tuesday that the support cost of wheat should be increased from Rs 950 to Rs. 1000 per 40 kg as the prices of inputs like fertilizers etc have increased in comparison to the last year"s prices.

The rector was chairing the confluence of the Labor Force on Agriculture here at the ministry.

"The per acre cost of production has increased and there would no attraction for the farmers in sowing wheat if we proceed with the final year"s support price.

The calculation made by the Agriculture Policy Institute (API) suggest that we must gain the support damage to provide some incentives in the kind of guaranteed procurement prices to advance the farmers to raise wheat.

Maintaining food security is the prime responsibility of the politics and it has become a challenge after the recent devastating floods", the curate said.

Gondal said that it is the considered judgment of the Labor Force on Agriculture that the support cost of the straw must be increased. He farther said that the poor farmers need to be supported in the consequence of the floods to procure food security for the upcoming years. The indicative price for rice was pended for the sentence being as the good is getting good prices in the open market.

The minister added the ministry is in interview with all the provinces to settle a backup package for the flood affected areas of the country.

He said the full sum for the software could come to Rs 15 million and the union government would chip in 50 per cent while the remaining 50% will be contributed by the provinces.

The encounter was accompanied by Fedral minister for InformationBroadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira, minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani and representatives from Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Nutrient and agriculture.

The planning commission was asked to organize a comprehensive program to see that farmers across the board get the announced support cost of wheat.
